andy buck | front wheel drive continues to be the most useless way to power a car. i fully recognize that rear wheel drive would be even worse in snow, but when a fwd car can't even make it up a simple driveway why bother subjecting yourself boring FWD misery for the 360 days a year it doesn't snow. |
steve block | you have a steep and shaded driveway. maybe you should put down sand or snow melt |
ben janke | the best solution is clearly four men of questionable sobriety pushing the lone sober driver up the hill. |
j.p. mcglinn | I don't understand how this happened. It looks straight, are there corners I can't see? It doesn't look to step. I blame the tires or the driver. |
ben janke | haha i knew i had seen this before somewhere =) |
andy buck | JP- it's enough of an incline to be problematic i guess. basically car goes up, loses traction, pauses then starts rolling backwards. in an effort to do something driver manages to turn the wheels slightly and them boom- sideways. |
andy buck | ben yes. also if anyone can figure out how to turn off the traction control on an es350 you are smarter than me |
steve block | solution is to get enough momentum on the flat part for the car to carry itself all the way to the top of the hill, and not brake on the steepest part |
andy buck | yes eventually we had to move my car out of the garage and launch the lexus out from there. worked like a charm |
j.p. mcglinn | Wow, I would have said the button, but searched the intarwebs and found out it's a fuse pull or pedal dance with nearly a dozen steps. I guess the ES needs snow tires...might as well have rwd. |
andy buck | yeah i looked all over for a button, then googled, then gave up on the idea of turning it off. germany makes it a lot easier to deactivate |
steve block | geez. it's easy for me, go into dashboard settings menu, go to traction control, turn to off |
andy buck | i press a physical button once to turn off some systems, and press it for a few seconds to turn everything off |
steven cuthbert | why bother with FWD or RWD when you can have AWD? My Impreza also has a traction control on/off button on the dash - easy. |
andy buck | awd is the best solution |
